Joanna Mastroianni presented her Fall/Winter 2012 show on Feb. 15, only this time around a model did not fall on the runway, a 95 year old fashion icon did. Three men rushed to help Zelda Kaplan after she passed out in her front row seat, not too long after she walked down Mastroianni’s runway. In this video on TMZ, it seems like some of the models and audience members were not phased by Kaplan’s death and the show definitely went on.

Let us take a moment to reminisce on Kaplan’s fashionable life on Earth. Zelda Kaplan created her own image. With the recent death of Whitney Houston, this is a tough week for New Jersey residents. Kaplan grew up near Flemington, N.J. She was known to keep her past life very private.

Kaplan was married twice, once for 11 months early in life, and later to a Samuel Kaplan, a doctor, with whom she never ventured much farther from her home in Miami than to Grossinger’s, the Catskills resort.

After her second divorce in the late 1960s, Kaplan moved to the city of New York, became a ballroom dance instructor and began studying what she referred to as “primitive cultures,” traveling to Mali and other exotic destinations in search of the woodcarvings and fabrics from which she made her eye-catching designs.

Kaplan has inspired the likes of Kelly Cutrone and other relevant voices in the fashion industry. She will be missed!
