Spain is a country with many undiscovered regions. The Experience Blog traveled to the country of Spain and we are ready to share our excursions into the most interesting parts of the country.

Barcelona

We flew into Barcelona as a starting point. Around May the weather is usually very temperate, similar to Spring weather in New York. It was beautiful once we arrived. The palm trees and preserved history within the buildings were extremely awesome. The famous work of the renowned architect Gaudi can be seen in many of the buildings, including the Cathedral in Barcelona. We resided in the Chic and Basic Hotels, which was a delight and the Catalonia Plaza near Plaza de Espana.

The food in Barcelona is splendid! We were able to get reservations to Tickets Bar and Restaurant (Avinguda del Paral·lel, 164  08015 Barcelona, Spain. +34 932 92 42 53), where the Tapas (traditional Spanish appetizers) were presented in a magnificent way. We enjoyed 19 courses of tapas and fine wine!

Mango Crusted Cream with Cubes of Balsamic Vinegar

TICKETS PIZZA

SEARED TUNA OVER AVOCADO

IBIZA
We went to Ibiza next, where we stayed at the Mar y Playa Apartments. The view was amazing! Ibiza was fun. We caught it a little off season, but went to a party at Pascha and had a great night! The DJ was on point and the island was a fun walk through. The key months to visit Ibiza would be late May, June, July, and August where the non-stop raves and international DJ’s make your stay quite the experience.

A day trip to the neighboring island of Formentera was necessary. Formentera is an hour ferry ride from Ibiza. We took the earliest ferry and spent the whole day on Formentera after renting bicycles and cycling to the four towns and many beaches along the coastline. We even stopped for some local food in one of the villages which was worth every Euro spent.

After every adventure, we made sure to watch the sunset near a body of water over a traditional Spanish dinner. This rule was no exception on the island of Formentera where we dined near the harbor at a restaurant with excellent seafood, wine and pizza.

SEVILLE
We flew to Seville and rented a car from the airport, courtesy of Europecar Rental Services. The cars in Span are much smaller and more gas efficient than America. Also, you should definitely know how to drive manual as 90% of the cars there have manual transmissions. Seville is a beautiful city in the South of Spain with a huge bull-fighting arena and very preserved architecture.
CADIZ
Cadiz was an hour drive from the city of Seville. This hidden paradise is home to a host of beautiful beaches, castles, Roman ruins and amazing food. We stayed with a college friend who teaches English in the Cadiz schools. Victoria Beach is beautiful. We sun-bathed, toured the bars and partied till 7 in the morning on the famous club strip, LA PUNTA. The live music was another treat as we bar-hopped.

TARIFA
Tarifa is an excellent city in the southernmost part of Spain near the Costa del Sol. We explored the point where three bodies of water intersect and create a non-stop medley of winds on Bolonia Beach. Visually, this is the most fascinating beach I have ever seen. The winds make it a cold stay but the kite surfers, sand dunes, sea shells, Roman ruins and beautiful clear water make up for it. You can even see the coast of Morocco, located to the North on the African continent from the top of the sand dune in Bolonia Beach. There were not many people in the hidden Bolonia beach, but it was a sight to behold.

@JulianRhine ROCKS OUT @HighlineBallroom

May 9, 2013 in Music, Share an Experience

This past Tuesday night, we had the great opportunity to witness history at Highline Ballroom. Up and coming artist Julian Rhine opened with a full set for Mobb Deep’s Havoc. We have watched Julian Rhine grow as an artist over the years and we certainly like the direction he is heading in.

Julian Rhine entered the stage to beautiful background vocals and a full band (keyboardist, bass guitarist, etc). He had a lot of energy and worked the crowd. His sound was quite different from the hardcore rap artists who had blessed the stage right before him; however, he captured the audience’s attention enough to have them rocking out to unfamiliar tunes, a fusion of rock, hip hop and rap.

We give this performance a thumbs up and look forward to more work by this talented artist in the near future.

Below you will find Julian Rhine’s latest music video, which can be found on his website: JULIANRHINE.COM

Games of the Street!

April 28, 2013 in Share an Experience

New York has always been a major cultural center of the world, and has many areas in which inspiration has taken place. Harlem is one such area, and is a major center of arts, culture, and also diversity.  On Saturday, April 27th, NYC Parks in association with the Walt Disney Company, hosted the 6th annual Street Games in Harlem.

Street Games takes you back to the classic, simple games of childhood, such as hula-hoops and double-dutch. Most of us who were born in the 80s and before can remember these childhood games in an almost wistful manner.  Kids and adults enjoy the fun of either discovering or reminiscing on these old school games.
Street Games took place in Harlem’s Thomas Jefferson Park from 11 AM to 3 PM. The Classic Street Games Zone feature games such as stickball, handball, yo-yos, pogo sticks, skateboarding, and others. There is street hockey, relay races, arts and crafts, and a soapbox derby.  There is live music and entertainment as well as performances from the Dance Theater of Harlem. For more information check out the NYC Parks website at http://www.nycgovparks.org/highlights/festivals/street-games.

POP! Goes the Cherry :) @BklynBotanic

April 5, 2013 in Art, HISTORY, Share an Experience

Nature is an important and artistic part of life and sometimes you just have to admire and enjoy the beauty in it. Brooklyn Botanic Garden embraces nature’s beauty one a daily basis through their significant plant-life. One of the most beautiful times of year at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the celebration of beauty in nature through the viewing of cherry blossoms.

Cherry-blossom viewing is in fact a Japanese traditional custom known as hanami. This custom is centuries old and consists of a festival-like atmosphere celebrating the beauty of flowers.  Brooklyn Botanic Garden keeps this tradition through the viewing of cherry-blossoms for a month, ending with Sakura Matsuri, which is a festival of Japanese culture and performance.

You can view the cherry blossoms starting from April 7th going until April 28th in Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Sakura Matsuri takes place from April 27th- 28th, 2013.  More information about the different events taking place during Sakura Matsuri can be found at http://www.bbg.org/visit/event/sakura_matsuri_2013.

The Inaugural Experience @BarackObama

January 23, 2013 in FASHION, HISTORY, Media, Share an Experience

Our trip to Washington, D.C. was well worth it. The city was full of life and vigor all in a cooperative effort to see President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden both sworn in during the 57th Presidential Inauguration. We analyzed the fashion and was very pleased with the efforts surrounding trend-setting.

Favorite moments?

The wife of Medgar Evans offering up that powerful invocation.

- Kelly Clarkson’s rendition

- Barack Obama’s speech

- The grand entrances of the various politicians

- Beyonce and Jay Z’s entrance

-The Brooklyn Tabernacle’s rendition

.
Fashion Moments to Remember?

1. Michelle Obama: Her ruby-colored chiffon and velvet gown designed by Jason Wu. This dress was worn during the ball. During the Inauguration Ceremony, Michelle wore a navy jacquard Thom Browne coat and dress, while accessorizing with wine-colored J Crew leather gloves and a dazzling belt. Michelle Obama also wore silver J.Crew heels and switched into Reed Krakoff suede knee-high boots.

2. Sasha and Malia Obama wore a J.Crew magenta overcoat, blue leather gloves and a purple scarf, a lavender Kate Spade coat with lavender dress and gloves.

3. Beyonce donned a Pucci dress and emerald earrings, while Jay looked dapper in a Tom Ford suit.

4. Eva Longoria Looked stunning, as always.

Welcome to @Da_DollHouse

January 11, 2013 in Art, Media, Share an Experience

There was a lot of brains behind the beauties that graced the stage of Highline Ballroom this past Tuesday January 8th. Da Dollhouse crew were ever so creative and tastefully tantalizing. This was the first time I have seen a performance by these talented ladies and it certainly will not be the last.

We enjoyed the host and her comedic fillers. She was dressed as one of the dancers and embraced her voluptuous curves with much pride. The one central theme seemed to be “urban burlesque,” the genre that this performance embodied.

The Da Dollhouse dancers are referred to as “The Dollz.” They come from various corners of the entertainment industry, gracing the stages of such talent as Beyoncé, Usher, Kanye West, Ciara, Sean Paul, Alicia Keys, Jasmine Sullivan, Ryan Leslie, Jerimah, Ashanti, N.E.R.D, Mario, Lil Mama and Anna Vissi, among many.

Highline Ballroom was an appropriate venue. The recent renovations have improved the overall aesthetic of the establishment. I would recommend you keep abreast of the next performances from the Dollz. Follow them on Twitter @Da_DollHouse or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DaDollHouseInc

Art Highlight – The Brilliant @SueTsai

January 3, 2013 in Art, Share an Experience

It’s always a pleasure to see young artists creating amazing pieces of art that transcend the norm. Sue Tsai was first brought to my attention when celebrity icon Rihanna posted one of her art pieces on Instagram. Within hours her artwork was seen by hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of people.

Sue Tsai is a 25-year old artist and jewelry designer. She has created brilliant pieces of art to which the younger generation can relate. Her latest artistic collection is called “Heartbreak on Canvas” which shows women taking things into their own hands in powerful ways. You can check out more of Sue Tsai’s art and jewelry on her website http://suetsai.com. They are available for purchase there as well.
